Getting to the truth together.

In order to continue our work on being committed to creating a workplace where everyone feels welcomed, included, and able to contribute, we saw an incredible opportunity to connect directly with our employees and meet them where they are regarding DE&I.

To get to the truth, SoFi Voices incorporates diverse voices, perspectives, and truths from the viewpoint of our URM/URG communities themselves.

Key terminology:

In 2022, we took our data gathering further in order to connect the dots on what exactly is the URM and URG employee experience at SoFi in a unique way.

We will be using key DE&I vocabulary to fully capture all the findings and details from our sources and participants. Please see the definitions to these key important terms below:

Involvement breakdown

We sat down with participants from various levels of the organization as well as individuals with diverse backgrounds incorporating but not limited to:

  • Gender
  • Ethnicity
  • Education
  • Sexual orientation
  • Veteran status
  • Disability status

Each participant was invited to answer a number of questions about their experience as a URM/URG at SoFi. They also had the option of staying anonymous during 1:1 sessions or focus groups.

Throughout the focus groups and 1:1 conversations, our internal research team communicated the intent of the study.  Each participant understood that representation matters - and how that representation is showcased must be done from a lens of authenticity, truth, and accountability.

Our commitment to all those involved with this publication is to ensure we not only amplify their voices and experiences but also target key areas of opportunity for us as an organization to run after—and work together to help solve.

Data Driven Approach

What did participation look like?

We had a total number of 42 participants* with each participant being invited to share their responses to a given set of key questions that were designed to help unpack DE&I focus areas that our organization has been working on. All respondents were provided the option to share anonymously or non-anonymously via either 1:1 interview sessions or group-style focus groups.

*We acknowledge the size of the population presented in this research may be perceived as low relative to URM/URG representation at the company. That said, we believe that transparency is the foundation of our DE&I journey and it's critically important that we share openly and honestly as we continue to iterate on the work being done in this space. We plan to learn, iterate, and innovate upon the scope of the research itself to continue to grow as an organization.

Digging deeper.

Our questions:

The questions worked together to provide a deeper view into the URM/URG experience at SoFi of each individual by extending an introspective and integral look into their unique stories, as well as unpacking DE&I focus areas that our organization has been working on.

Each question works towards furthering the understanding and awareness of these experiences to continuously improve our DE&I strategy in a meaningful, durable, and accountable way.

We centered the questions around three specific pillars:

  1.   Each participant's own journey with our current programming/strategy
